Sun and Moon Synastry in Astrology

You can pretty much instantly know if you are compatible with someone by looking for harmony between there Sun and Moon and your Sun and Moon. This is called a friendship aspect.

When we get into relationships, we want to know, to find out, can you be friends, will you easily support them, give in to them, laugh with them, and enjoy one another’s company? Sun and Moon compatibility is the quickest way to see that in the chart.

You probably know there are 12 signs in the zodiac. Those 12 signs are divided into four elements?

• The Earth Element

• The Water Element

• The Fire Element

• And the Air Element.

Each of those elements contains three signs

They are

• The Earth element holds Capricorn, Virgo, and Taurus

• The Water element holds Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces

• The Fire element holds Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius

• The Air element holds Libra, Aquarius, and Gemini.

Those elemental groupings are called the Trigons in traditional astrology. They mean there is a harmony between those signs.

Signs in the same element aspect one another by trine, which is a 120º angle. In astrology, we define this as a harmonious angle. This is an angle that creates an ease of flow between two energies. When you have signs in the same Trigon, they are either going to flow together because they are trine, or because they are conjunct.

Conjunct means they think, act, move, and similarly relate to the world. Trines mean they understand how each other thinks, moves, acts, and relate to one another. Trines promote harmonious growth; they encourage one another to be the best, and there is an ease between the two signs. The conjunction can be a little tricky, because the two can lead each other into missing the obvious, as they at times will over harmonize at the expense of input from the world and people around them.

So you see, with a Trine or Conjunction aspect, you are getting two people who are harmonious, supportive, encouraging, and acting in ways that they mutually benefit from. This aspect is like walking down the beach at sunset holding eachothers’s hands.

With this information, if you are meeting someone or thinking of entering into a relationship with someone, ask what their Moon and Sun signs are. Because if the Moon or Sun sign is in the same element as your Sun or Moon sign, then you have an ability to connect on a deep friendship level. This is the secret: the Sun and Moon are the deep parts of how your personality works in astrology. When the Sun and Moon are harmonious it is like two souls singing the same song in the moonlight.

If either one of these two is in the Same Element, then this is a relationship of Gold. When you meet someone new, ask the person or look up what their Sun and Moon signs are and see if there is harmony.

This does not mean everything will be perfect, after all the astrology chart has 10 significant planets,

The sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. They can all throw a wrench in the system, gum up the works of a relationship especially when you have Mars or Saturn forming oppositions or squares to the Sun or Moon. But if the Sun or Moon are in a harmonious elemental relationship by being in the same element, then whatever the other problems are in the chart, they can be worked out by mutual friendly understanding.

This one simple trick really works. Try it out and look at who your good friends are, see where you have mutual element relationships between your Sun and Moon or elsewhere in your chart.

There are other aspects to watch for. The Square that is 90º between planets and the opposition, that is 180º between planets, these create challenges in relationships. You need to learn a little astrology to really master this. The important thing to know though is that if you have the Sun or the Moon in a harmonious relationship with someone else’s Sun or Moon by element, you will get along, you can be friends, you can work anything out between each other.
